Hugh was born February 6, 1925 in Bristow, Ok to James C. and Viva K. Dawson His birth preceded his twin sister Hazel by 25 minutes. At the time of his death he was 86 years, 4 months and 0 days.

Hugh graduated Slick High School in 1943 followed immediately by his enlistment in the Navy. He served honorably in the Navy Medical Department for three years. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve and was assigned as a Medic to Co.B of the 20th Infantry, 1st Division, US Marine Corp which he also served honorable for four years. After graduating Tulsa University with a degree in business, he again enlisted in the Navy Reserve in the Financial Department. His total Navy Service was 31 years 10 months and 28 days.

He leaves behind his very special daughter. Also his Grandson and best friend, his greatly loved Granddaughters, each with special spouses that he considered his grandchildren too. He is also survived by three Great Grandsons and six Great Granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. Also, he is survived by one brother in law, John Baker, and Luella and Clyde Coleman his brother in law and sister in law Luella is the sister of my Ruthie.

Hugh was preceded in death by his wife Ruth to whom Hugh bragged about "They were born married". Also his parents James C and Viva Dawson and twin sister Hazel (Dawson) Baker, sister Clarabelle (Dawson) Clayton and a brother James C. Dawson, Jr. Hugh is the last survivor of the James C and Viva Dawson family.

Hugh spent his working years in the financial field. He was an Accountant, Corporate Auditor and Financial Manager for Sun Oil Company, it's predecessors Mid-Continent Petroleum and Sunray D-X, and retiring from Sun Pipe Line Company. All during his working years he also maintained a large Tax practice on the side. He enjoyed working. After his dear wife Ruth became ill, Hugh became her caregiver. Now as Hugh has looked forward to, they are together again - this time in good health and forever. Hugh was involved in fraud and security work. He first began security work while in the Navy. He liked this type of work so he continued into his civilian work expanding to include fraud work. He was a certified fraud examiner being a charter member of the Tulsa Chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners. Fishing with his Grandson James and Great Grandson Raphe was some of his happiest times. He loved being involved in antique autos. His favorite was his 1940 Chevrolet. His folks had one just like his when he was in high school and the one he and Ruth took their honeymoon trip in. Hugh and Ruth always wanted to own one just like his folks had but were unable to find one. When they found this one they bought it right on the spot and enjoyed it together until Ruthie became ill. Hugh brags about all the car shows he entered his Chevy in and how many trophies it won. Hugh has been and elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher in both the First Christian Church and the Southside Christian Church in Sapulpa. While living in Tulsa, he and Ruth were active in the Sheridan Avenue Christian Church. It was there that Judi was baptized into the Lord's arms. He, Ruth and Judi always enjoyed being involved in the Lord's work. Slick America was Hugh's home town and he always bragged about Slick. He remembers the hard times during the late 30's. He always said that in Slick even the rich people were poor!!. He talked about the hard winters and summers his family endured. His Dad and Mother were both very hard working people and did a great job keeping things together during those hard times. His growing up years spent in the oil field and on the farm was the very best and prepared him for the life that lay ahead for him. Over all Hugh said that life could not have been better for him. Having a sweetheart and wife like Ruth, a great daughter like Judi and the sweetest bunch of grandchildren and great grandchildren a man could every wish for was his blessing. If he could live his life over, he said the only thing he would want to be different is that he spent more time with Ruthie doing more things together - but now, that problem has been taken care of - he and Ruthie have forever together. He enjoyed the last several years helping his granddaughter, Shannon and her husband Matt rebuild the family farm in Slick uncovering lost memories of his childhood. Hugh's favorite scripture, which was also Ruth's, is taken from the book of Mark, chpt. 16, vs. 15 & 16", "And he told them you are to go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone everywhere. Those who believe and are baptized will be saved. But those who refuse to believe will be condemned".
