Leonard served as a Technical Sergeant, 329th Bomber Squadron, 93rd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Androscoggin County, Maine prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 30, 1941, prior to the war, in Portland, Maine. He was noted as being employed as a welder and also as Single, without dependents.
Leonard was "Killed In Action" in Europe during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on July 27, 1948.

It is currently "unknown" why "New York" is shown on his headstone. His burial card has "Maine" originally written on it ... then crossed out and replaced with "New York".
