Donald served as a Technical Sergeant on B-17G (#43-38190), 861st Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Aroostook County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 7, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 collided with another B-17 and crashed into the English Channel during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
