Jessie Williams Troxell, 100, of Columbia died Friday, Feb. 18, 1994, at Lenoir Health Care Center.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Calvary Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Fallis officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Calvary Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Troxell was born Feb. 12, 1894, in Boonville, the son of William Muir and Jessie Joplin Evans Williams. She married A. R. Troxell, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1971.
Mrs. Troxell graduated from Bonneville High School and attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and from the School of Journalism.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and of King's Daughters and was active in church and community affairs. She worked as a volunteer at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital and was instrumental in the founding of the Wardrobe, a second-hand clothing store for the indigent. She helped establish community mental health programs and was a charter member of the Columbia Art
Survivors include a son, James Thompson of Marshall; a daughter, Nancy Tipton of Denver; a sister, Sue Wilson of Lee's Summit, seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers.
Memorials can be made to the Calvary Episcopal Church or to Convenient House in Higginsville.
