Earnest A. Duncan, 78, of Churubusco, owner/operator of Earnest Duncan Excavating, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. The Allen County native retired in 1985 after 20 years of service, was also an area farmer, had served in Civilian Conservation Corps, and member of St. John's Lutheran Church-Lake Township, where he served as Sunday school teacher, superintendant and church trustee, and a World War II Navy veteran. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Hulda; a son, Dale of Churubusco; daughters Joyce Roberson of Longmont, Colo., and Joan Wilson of Churubusco; a sister, Rossie Beaman of Jackson, Mich.; a brother, Roger of Columbia City; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church-Lake Township, 7914 W. Cook Road, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Eel River Cemetery. Memorials are to the church or Alzheimer's Foundation.
