Airplane crash. He was on his way to a Stokley Van Camp meeting of food brokers. A Piedmont 727-200 collided with a Cessna resulting in about 82 deaths. No one on either plane survived. It was the 5th largest accidental plane crash in US Hisory.
The identification of bodies was made more difficult by the removal and theft of watches and rings from body parts by locals who arrived on the scene.
Benham was an executive of a wholesale food company. Son of Webster Lance Henham and Margaret L Drake. Married to Catherine Collier. Mrs Floyd Braaten, daughter.
