Conscripted, he was enrolled on 8/8/1862 at Camp Hill, Northampton County, NC., where he was mustered into "F" Co. NC 5th Infantry as a Private.
He died of disease in Camp Gregg, south of Fredericksburg.
The 5th Infantry Regiment State Troops was organized at Halifax, North Carolina, in July,1861. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Cumberland, Gates, Johnston, Graven, Rowan, Bertie, Wilson, and Caswell.
