PILOT ROCK - A memorial service and celebration of life for Robert Kay Harrison, was held today at the Community Presbyterian Church in Pilot Rock with in­terment at the Pilot Rock Cemetery.
Mr. Harri­son 78, a native of Pilot Rock, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Willowbrook
Terrace in Pendleton.
He was born Jan. 29, 1927, at Pilot Rock to James Robert and Ruth Fletcher Harrison. He grew up in Pilot Rock and grad­uated from Pilot Rock High School where he lettered in foot­ball and basketball.
On Jan. 2, 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and served with the U.S. Naval service Machinists Mate (Cm Battalion, in Oki­nawa. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1946 and was recipient of the Asiatic Pa­cific Area Campaign medal and a World War II Victory medal.
On April 29, 1947, he married Mildred A. Brannan of Pilot Rock They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Mr. Harrison logged and trucked in Walla Walla with partner Lee Thompson. In 1965, the Harrisons moved to West Yellowstone, Mont., where he owned and operated a success­ful logging company, Harrison Logging Company. They later moved to Livingston, Mont., where he owned and operated his own over-the-road truck, log­ging over a million miles. The Harrisons returned to Pilot Rock in 1995, retiring near their friends and family.
Mr. Harrison enjoyed camp­ing, fishing, golf, and snowmobiling. In later years, he enjoyed growing tomatoes and sharing them with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed playing pinochle with friends and fam­ily.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Pilot Rock; sons and daughters-in-law, James Dale and Karen Harrison ofLiv­ingston, Mont., Dean and Shirley Harrison of Pendleton, and David Lee and Shawna Harri­son of Los Alamos, N.M.; a brother, Wallace "Butch" Har­rison of Milton-Freewater, seven grandchildren, eight step­grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
