Death of Pearl Fletcher
Pearl Edwin Fletcher, 81, a native of Pilot Rock, passed away last Friday morning at his home here. Mr. Fletcher was born on September 16, 1876 at Pilot Rock and had farmed for 18 years south of the town. Following that he had resided in Pilot Rock for 33 years.
He was a life-long member and active worker in the Community Presbyterian Church. He was married to Carrie Fletcher, who survives as do two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Harrison and Mrs. Mildred Hoeft, both of Pilot rock; two sons, Stephen Fletcher, Salem, Ore. and Howard Fletcher, Rodondo Beach Calif.; brothers, Art Fletcher, Pendleton; Fred Fletcher, Walla Walla, Lark Fletcher, Hoquiam, Wash., Andy Fletcher, Riverside, Calif.; sisters Ethel Stubblefield, Boise, Ida., and Hazel Wells, Pilot Rock; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Fletcher were held Monday afternoon at the Pilot Rock Community Presbyterian church, with the Rev. James K. Egly officiating. Mrs. Richard Moltke was organist for the service, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McGowan sang a duet. Pallbearers were Orville Humphrey, Dean Rowley, Richard Moltke, Don Bauer, Charles Carnes, and Elbert Porter. Honorary bearers were Warren McGowan, Walter Dick, J. C. Hoskins, Cornelius Steck, Vern McGowan, Merwyn Gilbert and Bill Baker. Interment was in Olney Cemetary at Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Fletcher--Mr. Fletcher was born in the vicinity of Pilot Rock in 1876. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Fletcher. He generally followed the carpentry trade and built a number of houses and other structures in the community and other parts of the Basin. He also raised stock and did some farming. At one time his family lived at Pine Grove, and while there he organized a Sunday School. When in Pilot Rock he was an indefatigable worker in the Presbyterian Church. He was interested in and supported worthwhile community activities; in short, he was a concerned humanitarian.
He married Miss Carrie Warner, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Warner. They had four children born to them; Ruth (Harrison), Mildred (Hoeft), Stephen, and Howard.·
