William A. 'Bill' Dyke, 68, of rural Dennis, died at 10:18 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. His death was unexpected
He was born on August 7, 1942 at Parsons to George Franklin and Elsie (Modesitt) Dyke. He grew up near Parsons and attended Country schools graduating from Labette County Community High School.
He served in the Unites States Navy from 1960 to 1963. During his military service he was part of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He returned to the area where he worked at MEC in Neodesha as an electrician. He also worked as a carpenter and most recently at Grandview Products from where he retired.
He and Marilyn Bowers were married in 1964 at Thayer. They later divorced. He and Sandra (Hockett) Phillips were married on July 17, 1985 at Parsons. She survives of the home.
He was truly a 'Jack of all trades' and could fix just about anything. He especially enjoyed taking apart and fixing computers. He enjoyed caring for his animals and making and doing things for his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Quinn Dyke, and his wife, Cindy of Owasso, OK, Ryan Dyke of Chanute, and Jeff Phillips, and his wife, Tabitha Mound Valley; one daughter, Kim Mitchell, and her husband, Melvin of Claremore, OK; five grandchildren, Jenna and Jerod Dyke, Andrew Mitchell, Jeremy Phillips, and Skyler Phillips; his mother, Elsie Dyke; four brothers, Jack Dyke, and his wife, Kathy of Thayer, Bob Dyke, and his wife, Marlene of Bentonville, AR, Gene Dyke of Miami, OK, Chuck Dyke, and his wife, Linda of Las Vegas, NV; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Clyde Dyke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Thursday evening.
