Lloyd Eugene Stevens, 100, died Sunday, Oct.2, 2011, at his home.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial will follow in Santo North Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Lloyd was born in Lone Camp on Oct. 30, 1910, the son of Logan and Maudie May Jones Stevens. He spent most of his childhood in the Santo/Lone Camp area. He married Gladys Mae Motley on May 20, 1927, in Parker County and they were happily married for 73 years before Gladys died in August 2002. Lloyd worked at Santo Bank and owned Santo Telephone Co. for several years. Lloyd also did construction work and sold real estate and insurance. He retired from civil service at Fort Wolters in 1975. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army and was a Master Mason at Santo Lodge for 75 years.
Lloyd loved being with family and friends, he enjoyed fishing and loved traveling. He and Gladys traveled to 27 foreign countries and all 50 states many times. He also enjoyed taking a whole lot of pictures of his and Gladys's adventures. Lloyd became a Christian at Irving Street Baptist Church in Cleburne in 1923 at the age of 13 at a revival service. Lloyd joined Santo Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon on Nov. 30, 1937.
Lloyd and Gladys built a beautiful home on the hill on Morningside Drive in Mineral Wells. They moved there membership to First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells and Lloyd was an ordained deacon there for years.
