Henry Cary, of Co. G, enrolled Nov. 30, 1861 in Kendallville by D. Cary as a Private; mustered in Dec. 5, 1861 in Indianapolis by Lt. Stansbury at age 18. He was 5' 10" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. Born Jan. 23, 1845, in DeKalb Co., IN, employed as a farmer, single, resident of Turkey Creek, in Steuben Co., IN. Died of camp fever (chronic diarrhea) in Hospital #2 in Nashville Oct. 7, 1862, with rank of Private. Notes: Son of John and Martha Cosper Cary; brother to David and Phineas. Actual age was 16 at muster in. Never in battle. Accompanied Phineas' body home and became ill there with typhoid fever and extended his leave. Returned to duty by Apr. 30, 1862. Sent to General Hospital from Battle Creek, AL, Aug. 20, 1862. Gave written permission to brother David to draw whatever pay was due him Sep. 6, 1862. Hospital No. 2 was located in a University of Nashville building on Market Street. (Today on a map of Nashville, Second Avenue South near Lindsley Avenue). Burial #906 at City Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Perhaps reburied at County Line Cemetery in Steuben Co., IN.
