27th MO. Mtd. Inf. date: 4th of July 1861
William L. Christian age 23 joined the regiment in Warrensburg, Johnson Co. as Pvt. He also furnished his horse/equipment. 3 year term.

The 27th Regiment was disbanded and all men were officially discharged Feb.1862. This left Lt. William to "enlist as Pvt. Co.G 7th Cav. Mo. March 25/62. Was promoted Batt.' Q.M. Sgt.Major May 12/62. Mustered out as Q.M Sgt. Sept. 12/62. Was appointed 1st Sgt. Co.G 7th MO. Nov. 1/62.

Another muster card says, "Mustered in as 1st LT. Co.H 13th by virtue of his Excellency W.P. Hall, Gov. of MO. Sept. 13, 1864...."

These 26 pages of muster cards, 13th only also say Lt. William was transferred and promoted to take the vacancy of command at Ft. Riley, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Pages of good reading and a proud, excellent career.
13th Muster Roll Cards as an ending of his Civil War Career he was named as a Judge Advocate for Court Marshals and other hearings.

The pension card gives Co.C 27th MO- Co.H 13th MO- Co.G 7th MO. and lists the Widow as Emma I. Christian, file date was 1925 May 8th in Oklahoma. And William had filed as an Invalid 1891 Aug. 15 from MO. This pension card does not mention "minors" death pension card

1870 census Troy, Bedford Twnsp. Johnson CO. MO
BOARDING HOUSE
William Christian age:30 MO "Principal of High School"
William was one of dozens of roomers,
AND in 1870 he was not yet married to Emma.
(I believe this is our William but not sure 100% the age is not quite on but we all know how accurate our census records are) But it would answer how and why he was promoted so rapidly and handed the Command of Ft.Riley.
