First married Elizabeth Tuxbury on 5 December 1717 in Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts. She died 6 October 1718.

Second married Sarah Hoyt on 27 April 1721 in Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts.

He was pressed and sent to Haverhill and quartered at the house of Capt. Simon Wainwright. When the Indians made an attack on the town on Aug 29, 1708, he was captured and taken to Canada. He was a prisoner for four years, two months and nine days. He returned to Newbury Nov 8, 1712.

He was the first "captain" of the town of Newton, New Hampshire and long a Deacon in the Church of Christ.
