He was born June 2, 1914, in Davis County, Iowa, to Charles Clair and Emma Vironia Lanman Carroll. He married Evalyn L. Cain Dec. 26, 1935, in Eldon, Iowa. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II.
Lowell was a farmer and worked at John Deere in Ottumwa as a security guard, retiring in 1974. He was affiliated with the Free Methodist Church in Ottumwa and enjoyed coin collecting, golf and making new friends when he traveled to Texas with his wife. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gene (Marge) Carroll of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Randy (Linda) Carroll of Granger, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Bill) Hardy of Drakesville, Iowa, Linda (Harold) Yahnke of Bloomfield, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Noble Carroll of Ft. Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Max Carroll; and a grandson, Timothy Clair Carroll.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa, with Pastor Donna Olinger officiating. Burial will be in the Iowaville Cemetery near Eldon, Iowa.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
