Eugene A. "Gene" Anfinson, 86, of Ottumwa, died at Monroe County Hospital.


He was born in Minnesota to Bernard and Minerva Sheldahl Anfinson. He married Wincy L. Wright on March 28, 1945, in York, SC. She preceded him in death June 15 1988. He married Irene Tesinsky April 15, 1990 in Ottumwa.

He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre from February 10, 1941 to January 16, 1946 during World War II.

A resident of Ottumwa since 1952, he worked 22 years for John Morrell and Co. and 20 years as City Auditor of Ottumwa retiring in 1994.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gideon's International and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Surviving is his wife, Irene; three sons, Arlin (Carol) Anfinson of Ottumwa, Stephen (Lynn) Anfinson of Kerrville, TX, Ronald (Beth) Anfinson of Kenniwick, WA; 4 stepdaughters, Anna (Richard) Brown of Pueblo, CO, Linda (Stan) Maddy of Mystic, Shirley (John) Richards of Ottumwa, Georgia (Ben) Comer of Floris; 2 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 7 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Palzola of Kansas City, MO.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Bernard Anfinson.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Elgin officiating.

Burial was held with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
