Lt. Col. Marlin Call U. S. Air Force (Retired) 79, son of E.E. and Dottie Goodart Call of Hickory Ridge and Wynne, died December 5, 2011 in Bartlesville, OK.
He was born in Hickory Ridge, AR and graduated from Wynne High School in 1949.
While growing up he attended the Methodist Churches of Hickory Ridge and Wynne.
Cross County's first jet fighter pilot, Call earned his wings May 12, 1954 via the U.S. Air Force Aviation Cadet Program at Greenville Air Force Base, Greenville, MS, graduating top of his class. He flew the F-89D fighter jet for the Air Force at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, AK for thirty months, ending in 1957. He later piloted the famous F-100 for the Air Force Reserve in Tulsa, OK. He flew cargo planes for the U. S. Civil Service and for the Air National Guard at Tulsa. He made several trips to Viet Nam and other Pacific and European locations.
Marlin graduated top of his class from the University of Arkansas school of Architecture in 1963 and practiced for several years in Tulsa.
He is survived by his son, Chris Marlin Call and wife Shonna of Middleburg, VA; daughters, Tracee Darroch and husband Doug of Shamong, NJ; and Teri Bair and husband David of Tulsa, OK; sister Theda Newberry and husband Lelan of Paragould, AR; and granddaughters Lisa, Stephanie and Amy Woolery of Bartlesville, OK.
A memorial service was held at Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne. Private burial was at Lewis Cemetery.
