James Buckley, 64, of Bartlesville, died 5:55 a.m. Thursday at the Jane Phillips Hospital.
A rosary will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Austin officiating. Services are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.
James Anthony Buckley, 64, beloved husband, brother, and friend passed from this earth on October 10, 2002 after a brief illness at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.
A rosary service will be held 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the St. John Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday also at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Hung Viet Le offlciating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mr. Buckley in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.
Mr. Buckley was born January 5, 1938 to Eugene and Ellen Buckley in Cork City, Ireland. After completing his education and serving in the Irish Army of which he was the welter weight boxing champion of the Irish Free State Army, he arrived in the United States in 1958. He lived and worked in New York City for a brief time before being inducted into the US army in 1963. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he worked as a Metallurgist for TRW (now Schlumberger) until his retirement in 1985. He went on to serve as the Secretary and Treasurer to the Board of Directors of Metal Goods Manufacturing Co. as well as MGM Tank Car Company. Jim was a man of many talents and interests. An excellent tenor, Jim sang in the choir of St. John Church as well as the Bartlesville "Ad Libs." He was an avid student of U.S. history and current events as well as an entertaining conversationalist. Jim was a talented golfer, card-player and an actor in many local theater productions. He also enjoyed being a member of the Tulsa Men's Club as well as Hillcrest Country Club. Jim will be remembered best for his love of the U.S., razor-sharp wit, unfailing generosity and consistent integrity.
He is survived by his devoted wife of four years, Gloria Ann Buckley,(Gloria Buckley died April 16, 2007 and is buried next to her husband, Jim Buckley) two step-children, Alton Douglas Pettey III and Jennifer Elizabeth Pettey; 2 brothers, Eugene and Kevin Buckley of N.Y.; 9 sisters, Martha Sullivan, Lila Madden, Eileen Tully, Catherine McGovern, all of NY, Mary Willis of Ireland, Della Cox, Theresa Walsh, Pauline Wicks, and Joy Buckley all of England; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and a host of friends
