Jesse L. Adams Jr., 86, of Staunton died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Born in Enid, Okla., Mr. Adams was a former resident of Lake of the Woods for more than 20 years. He had a degree in engineering from the University of Texas. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, having served in Hiroshima, Japan. Before the war, he played in a jazz band.
He was a resident of Reston from 1966 to 1985, and was deputy director of the U.S. Savings Bond Division with the Department of Treasury from 1964 to 1982. He moved to Lake of the Woods in 1985.
He was a former member of the board of directors for Culpeper Regional Hospital; a former board member of LOWA; a volunteer for the Hospice of the Rapidan; and a member of the United Methodist Church of Reston and Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. He also was an avid fisherman and excellent golfer. His hobby was making golf clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Adams of Staunton; two daughters, Jessica A. Bradford of Plano, Texas, and Alyssa Adams of Berryville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, with the Rev. Robert Regan officiating. Private interment will be in Culpeper National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a hospice of choice.
