STATESBORO -- Carolyn Blitch, 85, died July 22 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was a graduate of Statesboro High School and Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). She served as director of the American Red Cross in West Palm, Beach, Fla., and retired after 25 years of service. Returning to Bulloch County she taught Georgia history in the local school system, retiring in 1983. She coached the History Quiz Bowl Team at William James School, taking members to become the first state champions in Georgia. She served as a counselor at Willingway Hospital since 1988 and was a member of Civic Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church.
SURVIVORS: two sisters, Mary Margaret Chambers of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Charlotte Minter of Youngsville, N. M. ; a brother, Parrish Blitch of Statesboro; a nephew, Jim Minter of Atlanta; three nieces, Lynn LaRue and Margaret Minter, both of Ormond Beach, and Ashley Newhaller of Ozona, Fla.; six great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Jake A. Futch Funeral Home, Statesboro.
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at Jake A. Futch Funeral Home.
