HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Donna Louise Akins, age 37, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at her residence. The Chatham County native lived in Bulloch County for many years and attended Brooklet schools, graduating from Statesboro High School in 1989 and Ogeechee Technical College in 1991. She was employed with ITT Grinnell for many years as an industrial maintenance person. Donna lived in Tampa, Fla., for three years and then returned to Bulloch County before moving to Hephzibah in 2007. She was a member of the Elmer Baptist Church. Donna was preceded in death by her father, Richard Larry Akins; and her grandmother, Lizzie Mae Driggers.
Surviving is her mother, Frances Driggers Akins of Hephzibah; a brother, Richard Shane Akins of California; two sisters, Christina Lynne Akins of Statesboro and Amanda Lou Kennedy of Statesboro; a niece, Taylor Anne Kennedy; and a nephew, Christopher Cade Kennedy. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Carter, Jeff Carter, Don Driggers, Jim Fail, Brandy Spears and Chris Kennedy.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to any local drug rehabilitation organization.
