William R Bibby was enlisted as a private on February 12, 1863, at Cropwell, Alabama, for the war. He was on a 40-day furlough beginning June 29, 1863, suffering from typhoid fever and nervous prostration. His residence was given as St Clair County, Alabama. Pvt. Bibby was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 3, Richmond, Virginia, with remittent fever on February 8, 1864, and returned to duty on February 25. He again was admitted to the hospital in Richmond on March 29, 1864, and sent to Chimborazo Hospital No. 3, Richmond, the next day, where he was admitted suffering from scorbutus [scurvy]. He was transferred to Hospital No. 2, Richmond, on April 8, 1864. He was transferred again, on May 18, to Howards Grove. They also transferred him, and May 23, 1864, he was admitted to CSA General Hospital, Danville, Virginia, with erysipelas, and furloughed on May 27.
