Hazen P. Bledsoe, 88, died at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. Funeral services were Tuesday in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. Pat Ireland of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in Strong City Cemetery.
Hazen Paul Bledsoe was born May 2, 1913, in Newton to Arthur and Bertha Betty Bledsoe. He married Isabel Elizabeth "Beth" Overstreet on April 14, 1942, in Martinez, Calif. She died Jan. 4, 1998.
Mr. Bledsoe worked as a drilling contractor and retired as a truck driver for Dolly Madison. He was a graduate of the College of Emporia. Mr. Bledsoe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls and the Mariners Group of the church.
He was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Strong City American Legon Post, Flint HIlls Rodeo Association and the Buck Creek Gun Club. He was the First President of the Kansas Water Well Drillers Association and was a past member of the Strong City School Board.
He is survived by two sons, Paul Bledsoe of Cottonwood Falls and John Bledsoe of Paola; one daughter, Mary Beth Maresh of Cottonwood Falls; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church in care of the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home.
