Obit. W.D. VanHorn, Retired Railway Express Agent, Dies in Local Hospital
William Daniel VanHorn, 80, a retired Railway Express Agent, died last night in the Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital. Mr. VanHorn, a native of Crescent, Mo., moved to Malvern 18 years ago. He was born October 23, 1879 and was married in 1905 to Miss Martha E. Cook. He was a Methodist, and he and Mrs. VanHorn celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1955.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Laura Stapp of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Clara Blackburn of Gary, Ind., and Mrs. Mary Efird of Batesville; six sons, Ray VanHorn of San Francisco, Lawrence VanHorn of St. Louis, Mo., Don VanHorn of the U.S.
Air Force in Japan, Herbert VanHorn and Ed VanHorn of Tulsa, Okla., and Gene VanHorn of Batesville; and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at four o'clock in the chapel of the Atkinson Funeral Home by Rev. John Lindsay. Burial will be in Harp Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Olen Cates, Harold Helms, Earl Yates, Roy Burks, Luther Cunningham, Tom Ross Young, John Hickman and Jerry Greer.
William was the son of Charles Henry and Margaret Ellen Dettwiler VanHorn from St. Louis, Mo.
