John Henry Hawkins was the son of Stephen Albert Hawkins and Magdelena Hake Hawkins. His maternal grandparents were John Henry Hake and Louisa Betz Hake. His paternal grandparents were Joshua D. Hawkins and Mary E. Clark Hawkins. John served in the military during WW I.

Truck Co 1 Division Supply Train ONG (Co A 112 Supply Train) to Discharge Private, first class 1 Sept 1917; Corporal 15 Nov 1917. Meuse-Argonne; Ypres-Lys; Defensive Sector. American Expeditionary Forces 28 June 1918 to 27 March 1919. Honorable discharge.

John's wife was Addie Burt. Addie was born in September of 1895 in Ohio and died on 16 May 1976 in Fulton County, Ohio. At the time of her death she was widowed. Her father, Charles A. Burt was born in February of 1864 in Ohio and her mother, Eva H. Burt was born in April of 1867, in Michigan. In 1900, the family was living in Oregon, Lucas County, Ohio.

John and Addie were married in about 1920. In 1930, John and Addie were living in Swanton, Lucas County, with their three daughters. John was an assembler in a factory. In 1942 John registered for the Draft. He indicated that his wife was Addie Hawkins and his address was Chicago Pike R.F.D. 3, Swanton, Ohio. He was a self employed farmer.
