Tutuila was my third granddaughter. She was born on a beautiful Tuesday at mid-morning. She weighed in at 6lb. and 12oz. We were so excited about her birth. When I went to visit her at the hospital that evening, I knew something just didn't seem right. They had her in a warming bed with only a diaper on. She didn't cry much and when she did, the cry just didn't seem like a normal cry of being hungry or wet. My daughter-in-law was having a rough time feeding her. The doctors and nurses said she was fine. We brought her home on Thursday afternoon, two days later. We got her settled in but she just didn't eat and slept alot. When she cried, I turned to my mom and said that her cry just wasn't right. That evening I held her and she was resting on my shoulder when her little left arm started to shake. I didn't like it. I thought maybe she was having a seizure or something but the doctors said she was okay when they released her to come home so I just prayed. About three in the morning I woke up to her cry and my husband was cradling her in his arms trying to comfort her. My son and his wife took her back to the emergency and were finally told that they were just overreacting and she was fine. They brought her home at 7:00a.m. and she died in our home at 8:00a.m.. Her autopsy showed that she had a condition called PDA. It is when the fluid between the heart and lungs are not flowing right. It was something that could have been fixed and she could have lived a normal life. We are a Christian family and we know that God called her back for a reason only He knows. We were blessed to have her for three days and we loved her so very much. We miss her to this day.
