David Lane Carpenter b June 1 1824 Somerstown, Westchester, NY. He died 12 Jan 1903 at the age of Omaha, NE. He married Emeline Lawrence daughter of Isaac and Pauline Lawrence on Feb, 12 1948 at Paterson, NY.

David was in the grocery and feed business in New York City at 209 Bowery. In 1853 he and his family moved to Lone Rock, Richland County, Wisconsin and ran a grocery store. His brother James G. Carpenter and his wife Elizabeth also moved to Richland Co, Wisc. at the same time.

In 1870 they moved to Papillion, Neb. And engaged in the general merchandise, lumber, grain , and coal. They moved to Omaha. NE in 1883 The history of Papillion NE lists D. L. Carpenter, 1874-79 as post master. The 1880 census shows that he was a resident of Papillion Village, Sarpy Co. NE. where he was a prominent merchant and businessman in the early days of Sarpy County, NE.

David and Emaline had seven children. The four oldest, James T (who lived only a few days),

James Enoch Carpenter, born May 27, 1852,
Pauline Carpenter, born Dec.12, 1853,
-all born in New York City.
Henry Lane Carpenter, born August 15, 1858,
Jeannie C. Carpenter, born Feb. 25, 1861,
David Lane Carpenter, Jr., born June 14, 1867,
-all born in Lone Rock, Richland County, WI.
