Doris was born to Oscar Walford and Hannah Johnson Olson. When she was a small child her parents moved the family to Dalbo, Minnesota where they bought and worked an 80-acre farm. She had one sister, Leone Olson. When Doris was 18, she moved from the farm to the city and it was there that she became acquainted with and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on September 17, 1933.
In 1935, Doris traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah and receive her temple endowment on June 5th. She made the decision to remain in Salt Lake City and gained employment as a maid in the home of Dr. Nelson (father to the Apostle Russell M. Nelson.)
Later, Doris read a newspaper advertisment submitted a man looking for a "housekeeper in a motherless home". She mailed a reply and two days later, Brigham Dewey Davies came looking for the girl who responed to his ad. On June 6, 1936 she moved to his home in Lake Point, Utah and began to assist in raising his six children (Burton, Howard, Farrel, Gilbert, Keith & Thelma.) Overwhelmed at times by the task she accepted, there were days she considered leaving. But she bravely faced the challenge and accepted the responsibility that few 23 year old women would do.
A love developed between Doris and Brigham and they married on October 13, 1936. Three additional children were added to the family from this marriage (Darlene, Janet and Jerry.)
At age 52, Doris received a degree on September 9, 1965 to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for years at the LDS hospital in Salt Lake City.
She was very faithful in fulfilling callings, including Relief Society President in the Lake Point Ward. She did a remarkaable amount of temple work for her Swedish ancestry. She and Dewey also served as workers in the Jordan River Temple. They were married for 59 years prior to her passing in May, 1996.
Doris is on the same stone with Brigham and his first wife, Thelma.
