Inscribed on her Monument:
Kaitlyn was born, along with her twin brother Kristopher, on June 26, 1989 and died in a car accident on September 23, 2005. Her life began at the Baptist Regional Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky and ended just east of old Bush school on Highway 80 in Laurel County, Kentucky. In addition to Kristopher she had a sister Jennifer, step sister Heidi, step brother Geoffrey, step brother Travis and step sister Stephanie. She was a junior at North Laurel High School and was a North Laurel Varsity Cheerleader for four years starting in the eighth grade. During her career as a cheerleder her squad placed 2nd in the UCA Nationals at Wide World of Sports, Disney World in Orlando, Florida and earned a state championship at the KAPOS competition in Richmond, Kentucky - both in 2003.
Kaitlyn was a beautiful young lady at 4' 11' inches tall and 120 pounds. She had dark blonde hair and blue eyes. Her bedroom was lime green with a hot pink theme and she had a hot pink Convertable Volkswagon Beetle. Kaitlyn chose her friends - and there were many - based on the goodness within, mutual trust and the desire to have fun in life - never on their social and economic standing in the community or their ethnic background. She never met a stranger and had the ability to wrap all men around her little finger and could get most anything she wanted from them. She was mischievous and had a naivety that brought laughter to all, always had a smile on her face and lived life to the fullest. The year of her death she caught a frog
and put it in a football player's locker at school. He kept, fed and nurtured that frog for the rest of the year. Kaitlyn stories will be remembered, cherished, told and retold by those who knew her for many years to come.
In her short 16 years Kaitlyn had a fuller life than most that live to a ripe old age. She visited Disney World and Florida on many occasions, vacationed in Virginia Beach, traveled to Mount Hood and Multnomah Falls in Portland, Oregon, the Oregon Pacific coast, went on a road trip from London, Kentucky to the Badlands Mount Rushmore the Black Hills and Custer State Park of South Dakota - Devils Tower and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming - Yosemite Sequoia and Death Valley National Parks in California - Las Vegas - Zion National Park Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park in Utah - the Grand Canyon the Painted Desert and Monument Valley in Arizona - the Royal Gorge in Colorado - and Daniel Boone's Home in Missouri, snorkeling in the Cayman Islands, on Safari in Kenya Africa, and was on the girls Little League fast pitch softball all star team that won the Kentucky state Championship in 2001.
We miss you and in the words of Green Day - we hope you had the time of your life.
