Calvin P. Kitzman, age 86, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Jersey Ridge Place in Davenport. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park in Davenport. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport. Memorials may be made to The Humane Society.
Calvin was born in 1927 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Carl and Helena Kitzmann. He was united in marriage to E. Mardelle Reck on August 17, 1947 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2012.
Calvin served on the USS Pennsylvania when it was torpedoed in World War II.
He spent a great deal of his career as a truck driver and took pride in building his own ice cream business called "Cal's Chuck Wagon" that served neighboring communities.
Cal and his wife Mardelle lived their faith by being active members in the Lutheran Church.
Calvin is survived by her children, David (Maggi) Kitzman of Troy, IA, Terry (Sheryl) Kitzman of Milton, IA, Denise (Thomas) Keefe of Davenport, Douglas (Lisa) Kitzman of Port Byron, IL, Richard (Robin) Kitzman of Keokuk, IA, and Kimberly (James) Hayes of Blue Grass; 24 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald Kitzman of California.
