Stronghurst, IL - Dec. 16. This morning at 8:30 occured the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Curry, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. M.E. Beardsley. Elizabeth Ward was born in Oneida County, NY on Nov. 5, 1818, being ninety-one years, one month, and eleven days of age. When still a young woman, she came to Olena, O, while Olena was still a territory. In 1834 she was married to James Washington Haislett of Ohio, and to this union five children were born, one, Otho Haislett of Gladstone, who still survives. In 1849 Mr. Haislett went to California and died there the same year. They were living at Dubuque, Iowa and Iowa was also a territory at that time.

After Mr. Haislett's death, she married Simon Nichols, who only lived two years. In 1854 she married George Curry of Olena, IL and to this union four children were born, C.H. Curry of Stronghurst being the only one of the 4 living. Since 1851 she has been a resident of Henderson County, most of the time living within a few miles of Stronghurst. At one time they lived in a house which stood where Mrs. Mary Thompson's house now stands.

Mrs. Curry was a woman of unusual memory and her stories of the hardships of the early settlers and troubles with the Indians was most interesting. She is survived by the two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. The funeral services will be (Dec. 17) and interment will be made in the local cemetery. From the Burlington Hawkeye, Dec. 16, 1909.

A daughter of Samuel & Azubah (Bailey) Ward, Elizabeth moved from Oneida County, NY to Huron County, OH with her family; to Dubuque, IA with her first husband; then to Henderson Co, IL. Her daughters, Azubah Ann (Putney), Catharine Elizabeth (Cook), Phildilia Haislett, and Nancy Charlotte (Mohr) all preceded their mother in death. Phildilia is buried in the Nichols Family Cemetery with Simon Peter Nichols, under the name Phildilia Nichols.
