"Michael Coon, a soldier of the revolution, and of the war iof 1812, died on Monday last, at his residence in Philadelphia. The deceased, with three brothers, passed through some of the most exciting scenes of the revolutionary war, and he was for a time under the immediate command of Washington himself. The deceased was six feet, four inches in height, and the smallest of his family. There are very few now living who were actors in the important events of the revolution. It is probable that unusual military honors will be paid to the remains of this departed hero of two wars on the occasion of his funeral. Mr. Coon was one hundred and five years, five months and five days."
Public Ledger (Philadelphia), March 22, 1860
