John Wesley Davis, 74, the eldest of 9 children, was born in Poulan, Worth County, Georgia to the union of Whitley Davis and Leola Wilbourn.
The family migrated to Detroit, Michigan sometime after 1920, and later moved to Clinton Township, where he attended William Nicke School in Clinton Township, Michigan.
Was a Staff Sergeant in the Army where he served during combat overseas in WWII.
After his honorable discharge from the military service he was employed as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service until his retirement.
John did not marry until late in life when he married Ada Scott in 1971.
John was preceded in death by his loving mother, Leola Davis, his father, Whitely Davis; three sisters, Willa Mae, Ella and Sarah Solomon. He leaves to celebrate his memory; his wife, Ada Scott Davis; three sisters, Bette Holmes and Dolores Lane of Clinton Township and Waneda (Charlie) Cash of Detroit.; two brothers, Anthony (Hazel) of Clinton Township, and Doc (Hester) Davis of Clinton Township; sister-in-law, Myrtle Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other relatives and friends.
Service Held at Cantrell Funeral Home, Detroit, Michigan; Visitation Friday Noon until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:30 a.m. Family Hour
