Clelia Jane (Boushee) Bullard
July 10, 1928 - May 25, 2015

Clelia Jane (Boushee) Bullard passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Ray Bullard, a loving and caring mother and grandmother to her four daughters and ten grandchildren, and a faithful friend to many.

Clelia was born in Washington, D.C., on July 10, 1928, to Franklin Pierce Boushee and Clelia Martin Boushee. As a child, she lived in Vienna, VA, Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Bogota, NJ, where she graduated from high school. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, and was later certified in Florida to teach early childhood, elementary and secondary education.

Clelia met and married her husband, Ray, in Wilmington, NC, where they lived with their four daughters until the Atlantic Coastline Railroad moved its headquarters to Jacksonville in 1960. She was a homemaker first, but also taught kindergarten and first grade students at Riverside Presbyterian Day School for a number of years.

Each of her daughters married and settled in Jacksonville, which enabled her to
have uniquely close and rewarding relationships with them, their husbands, and her10 grandchildren.

The Bullard family was very active at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Clelia served in several areas of ministry, but most enjoyed being a women's SundaySchool teacher and working alongside her husband in the College Department. Many of those students were strongly influenced by Ray's and Clelia's testimonies, and stayed in touch with them throughout the years.

A firm believer in volunteerism, Clelia was an active member and officer in the PTA, and an active member and past president of the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She also served on the board of the Florida Division of UDC. She was a member of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; National Society of the Colonial Dames of America; Hannah Dustin Chapter, Colonial Dames 17th Century; and Southern Dames of America. She served as president of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was also a member of Timuquana Country Club.

Her husband, Raymond Lee Bullard, an infant brother, Britt Boushee, a sister-in-law, Betty (East) Boushee, a granddaughter, Lee Davis, and a great-granddaughter, Margaret Anne Davis, predeceased her.

Four daughters, Clelia (Bullard) Davis, Britt (Bullard) Pease, and her husband, Rick Pease, Molly (Bullard) McRae, and her husband, Jesse McRae, and Roslyn (Bullard) Volpe, and her husband, Timothy “Tim” Volpe, a brother, Captain Frank Boushee, USN (ret.) of Jacksonville, sister, Kathy (Boushee) Ames, and her husband, Mark Ames, of Mamaroneck, NY, grandchildren, Clelia Keen and her husband, Jerry Keen, Marshall Davis, III and his wife, Mary Michael Davis, and Lt. Raymond Davis, USN, Whitaker McRae, Pierce McRae, Martin McRae, Joshua Volpe, and his wife, Tara Volpe, Roslyn Henderson, Kaye Stegink and her husband, Timothy “Tim” Stegink, and Leigh Volpe, four great-grandchildren, Ryker Volpe, Blanton Stegink, Clelia Keen, and Jane Davis, as well as many nieces and nephews survived her.

Funeral services for Clelia were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Ortega Campus of First Baptist Church, 4865 Roosevelt Boulevard,
Jacksonville, FL 32210. Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Following the service, a reception will be held at Ortega River Club, 4165 Lakeside Drive,
Jacksonville, FL 32210.

A private interment will follow on Sunday at the family cemetery plot in Hamilton County, FL.

The family requests that memorials be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or Greater Jacksonville Area USO, PO Box 108, Jacksonville, FL, 32212-0108. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage Giddens Funeral Home 729 S. Edgewood Avenue.
