Was a soldier in the Civil War, enlisting June 20, 1861, in the 2d West Virginia Infantry. He was in all the battles of the regiment: Waterloo, Huntersville, Sulphur Springs, second battle of Bull Run, Rocky Gap, Droop Mountain, Gainesville, Dry Fork, and others.

He re-enlisted as a Vet. Vol., Jan. 5, 1864, at Martinsburg, W.Va., under Gen'l Order No. 191, War Dept Series of 1863. Assigned to 6th Regt. Cavalry.
