Hydroplane Racer William "Wild Bill" Cantrell was one of the most renowned hydroplane race drivers in the sport's history. He won the prestigious APBA Gold Cup in 1949 and was a two-time national champion in 1949 and 1963. He raced automobiles in the famed Indianapolis '500' in 1948, 1949, and 1950. He was inducted into Unlimited Hydroplane Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was a stunt driver in two Hollywood racing films, "To Please a Lady" and "The Big Wheel".
