Henrietta Frances Jackson, born 22 Jan 1843, was the daughter of Stephen Jackson, a prominent figure in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. As a beautiful daughter of a wealthy and influential family, it must be assumed that her younger years were years of ease and privilege, which changed with the coming of the War Between the States.
She was 17 years old when, in 1860, she married William Meadow Burch, son of another wealthy Chesterfield County family. In December of that year, her father was a delegate to the South Carolina Secession Convention, where he was one of the signers of the Ordinance of Secession as South Carolina became the first state to leave the Union. In April 1862, when their first child, William Franklin, was only seven months old, Henrietta's 22-year-old husband enlisted in the Confederate cavalry, where he served for the duration of the War Between the States.
William was home on furlough for ten days in late October and early November 1863. Henrietta gave birth to their second child, Lula Jackson, nine months later. Eight more children were born after the close of the War: Henry Andrew in 1867, Benjamin Stephen in 1869, Joseph Blakeney in 1872, Mary Roxanna in 1874, Christopher Columbus in 1877, Jessie Susanna in 1879, Henrietta Jeanette in 1882 and Rufus Edwin in 1885.
Henrietta Frances Jackson Burch died on 26 May 1913 and is buried at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt Croghan, South Carolina.
