A teenager and a young man are dead and two others are in critical condition when a stolen car they were in slammed into embankments and rolled over after crashing in an Erie Township ditch at high speeds early this morning, officials said.
Two of the victims — one was ejected from the car — were pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were flown by air ambulance to Toledo hospitals.
Monroe County sheriff's deputies identified the two who were killed as the driver, Charles Savon Roberts, 16, of Luna Pier, and a rear passenger, Daniel Cessna, 20, of Erie. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, Deputy Tim George said.
The two others in the car were Matthew Phelan, 20, of Luna Pier and Mike Smith, 23, of Erie. Both were listed in critical condition this morning.
The accident happened about 1:45 a.m. on Sterns Rd. near Suder Ave. Deputy George said the four were in a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, which was reportedly stolen about 15 minutes prior to the crash.
