DeWitt Carter

CARTER, DeWitt, age 81, a resident of Sebring, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Florida Hospital Heartland, Sebring. He was born July 4, 1922 in Scott, Georgia. Son of James and Annie Reese Carter. He was an Army Veteran with the Infantry Div. and served during World War II in the European Theatre when he fought in Normandy, France, Belgium, Luxenburg and Germany, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He came to Sebring after being discharged from service in 1946. He was employed by Sebring Utilities and retired after 28 years. He went to work after retirement with Highlands County School Maintenance as an Electrician, and retired after 11 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. DeWitt was preceded in death by son Johnny, three brothers, Lanier Carter, Sebring, Edison and Cleo Carter of Dublin, Georgia and three sisters, Annie Laura Stroup, Quilla Mae Carroll, Mary Alma Haywood of Sebring. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son and his wife. Two granddaughters, a brother, and a sister. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at Morris Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. Burial in Pinecrest Cemetery. MORRIS FUNERAL CHAPEL, Sebring..
