James Thomas Glass
Austin, Texas Firefighter - Engine 6

Firefighter Glass was injured after being caught under a falling wall and staircase at the Kriesle building fire on Congress Avenue at 4th Street on July 23, 1916. Firefighter Glass died as a result of his injuries on August 17, 1917.

Firefighter Glass wore badge number 13, which is forever retired as a fire department number in his honor. Because of this action, there is no Fire Station 13 still to this day. The Kriesle building was saved and still stands today.

Firefighter Glass was the first Line of Duty Death in the newly created fully paid Austin Fire Department, which was created on June 16, 1916.
