Gordon, William W.: Merchant. engaged in cotton business, Savannah, Ga, since 1854; partner, W.W. Gordon & Co.; A.B. Yale, 1854. Second Lt. Ga. Hussars, J.E.B., Stuart's Cav., C.S.A.; capt and insp. Mercer's brigade of Inf.; capt. and adj. Anderson's brigade, Wheeler's cav., wounded at Lovejoy's Sta., Ga.; placed upon the Roll of Honor for gallantry at Frederick City, Md.
After war served in Ga. cav. four times in command of troops for riot duty.
Vice-president of Merchant's National Bank, 1894-98; pres. Savannah Cotton Exchange, 1876-79, Savannah Belevolent Ass'n, 1890-91. Member Ga. House of Rep. 1883-90. Brig-gen. U.S.V., May 27, 1898-March 24, 1899.
