Clinton Low was born in Gouverneur, New York where he was one of 5 children; he attended the public schools there, and learned the carpentry trade. As a young man he enlisted in 1862 to fight for the Union during the Civil War and saw action in several battles (see article). He married twice, his first wife dying young. His second wife was Margaret "Maggie" Finlayson who came to America from Scotland with her family in 1856. Clint married Maggie in Newark, IL and eventually moved west to farm in Iowa. They raised two daughters, Jennie and Julia. Late in life, Clint and Maggie moved to the small town of Ione, Oregon where they lived near their daughter Jennie and her second husband, Laxton McMurray. Their daughter Julia died in Florida in 1927. The newspaper article about Clint's life describes him in the last sentence as "a man of sterling character and a particularly lovable nature." The photo of Maggie and Clint, possibly taken around the time of their 50th wedding anniversary, personifies the "old married couple."
He was survived by his widow, Maggie; his daughter Jennie; and several grandchildren including: Vera Moen; Nolan Page; and David Howe.
