William Newton Knapp, son of Newton Butler and Margaret Knapp, was born June 11, 1866, in Farmington and passed away January 2, 1953, at the Guthrie county hospital where he had been a patient for a month. He was 87 years, six months and 21 days old.

He was the youngest of eight children, five girls and three boys. Until 1883 he lived in Lee county. Then he moved to Allerton where he lived until 1920, at which time he moved to Long Beach, Calif., and has since made his home there.

On October 11, 1891, he was united in marriage to Minnie Ann Jones. To this union were born two sons and five daughters.

He was a member of the Baptist church in Long Beach.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Those surviving are his wife, Minnie, of Allerton; five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Seidler of Jamaica, Iowa.; Margaret Landstrom and Floyd E. Knapp, both of DesMoines; William N Knapp, Allerton; Alberta Cruikshank, Waukee; Hazel Whiteley, Corydon; Helen Williams, Yakima, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
