Elliott served in the Mexican War as a 1st Lieut. in the Mississippi Volunteery Infantry. Following that War he moved to Albion, Michigan in the early 1850s and married Clara Gale where they lived throughout that decade. The moved to Youngstown, Ohio in the fall of 1860, where Elliott enlisted in the 19th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served until 1863. While there he was promoted to Lieut-Colonel. Following his term of service he then returned to Albion. 
 
Note: D. Sheridan Twp. age 57. Wife Clara E. Gale m. 9/27/1853. Lt. Col. Civil War 19th OH infantry. Albion GAR Post 210 named after him because he was the first field officer in Albion to die after the War.
