Death: Aug. 12, 1998

Richard Herl Beach was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas to Homer and Dessie Beach. When he was 2 years old, the family relocated to St Clair County, Missouri and Richard grew up in Osceola. Growing up, most of Richard's friends and family called him Herl. When he turned 18, he and best friend Dick Roeder drove across the country working various odd jobs, working as a short order cook in California for a time and playing semi-pro baseball in Iowa. He played with and was close friends with Bob Feller, so he either played with him on the Farmers Union Team or on Bob's father's team, the Oakviews. He lived with the Fellers on their farm for at least part of the time he was in Iowa. He eventually returned to Missouri where he met Elva Littleton and settled down. They were married on December 30, 1944 and raised four children in Raytown, Missouri. Once their children were grown, they relocated to Hamilton and then to Bates City. Richard worked as a security guard at Kauffman Stadium for 25 years. He loved baseball and was a loyal Royals fan, only retiring when his health kept him from being able to work. He was a devoted husband and family man who was loved dearly and will be forever missed.
