PENDLETON — Lorna Kranzler Kellison, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, of heart failure in Pendleton. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11 at Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place, Wash.
Mrs. Kellison was born March 11, 1918, in Ashley, N.D., to Johann and Friedricka Zimmerman Kranzler. In 1923, she traveled with her family to a farm near Fallon, Mont., where she worked alongside her family operating seeding and harvesting equipment. She attended all German-speaking schools until she went to high school in Mildred, Mont., staying in a cabin with her brother during the school week. In her senior year she attended Mount Ellis Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school, near Bozeman, Mont., graduating in 1937.
It was there that she met a brother of one of her friends, Walter Phillip Kellison. They were married at a camp meeting at Mount Ellis Academy in 1939. They first lived in Bear Canyon near Bozeman and then moved to Billings, Mont. A few years later they moved to Beach, N.D., to work on a sheep ranch. Later, they moved to the Kranzler farm to help with the work and then to Bozeman to do construction work, and continued to work both places. They also lived up Bridger Canyon, where they built several homes. While her children were in college, she returned to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, and worked many years at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
In 1976 they moved to the Spokane area and built a home across the road from their son's family. Due to Walter's deteriorating health, in 1994 they moved to College Place, Wash., to be closer to their daughter. She was a homemaker and lived by herself in her home for 16 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Patti Rittenbach of Pendleton; son Steve Kellison of Lakeside; Susan Kellison of College Place, Wash.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and two nieces and two nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter Kellison in 1995; sister Hildegard Ehman; and brother Richard Kranzler.
