Evan, the youngest son of James and Ann Grubb, was a Wilmington shoe dealer who enlisted in he 1st Delaware Volunteer Infantry during the Civil war and was promoted through the ranks to captain for his bravery in action. He married Eliza J. and had five children. In 1888 he remarried to Florence and had three more children. They lived in Philadelphia in 1900.
