Ira L. Deardorff, 73, died at 4:30 this morning at the Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg. He had been in failing health since his retirement December 1, 1952. His condition became worse the last three weeks and he was admitted to the hospital yesterday.
He was born at Roadside, the son of Jacob and Charlotte Wildeson Deardorff. His early life was spent at New Franklin.
Mr. Deardorff came to Waynesboro in 1900 and learned the machinists trade at Frick Company. For five years, he was employed at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh.
He returned to Frick Company where he was employed as a tool maker and at the time of his retirement was foreman of the tool room.
He had resided at 114 Garfield Street and for the last three years had made his home with his son, Richard L. Deardorff at 504 North Front Street, Wormleysburg.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Chruch of Lemoyne; Knights of Pythias of Waynesboro.
His wife, Mary Buhrman Deardorff, died in 1942.
Surviving are two sons, Richard L. Deardorff, Wormleysburg; Robert K. Deardorff, Falls Church, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Howard Spangler, Chambersburg Route 5; Mrs M. E. Branthaver of Greencastle; Mrs. Henry W. Good of Waynesboro.
Funeral service will be held Thrusday at 2 o'clock from the Grove Funeral Home. Burial will be made in Burns Hill Cemetery.
