GALENA -- Stanley L. Fox, 87, of Galena, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 2, 2012. He was resting comfortably on the couch waiting for dinner.

Stan was a delightful and caring man. He had a wry sense of humor and was easy to talk to. He asked little of others, but gave much. He had a deep sense of the Lord's presence and was sought for his Godly wisdom. He was actively caring for his wife and children up to the day that he died.

He will be remembered lovingly by his wife, Janet King Fox, to whom he was married June 16, 1956; children, Philip (Cheri) Fox of Ada, Mich., Steven (Debbie) Fox of Wooster and Beth (John) Foss of Marion, Ind.; grandchildren, Seth (Mandy) Foss, Autumn Fox, Joshua (Sarah) Foss, Daniel Fox, Bethany Fox, Jonathan Fox, Alyssa Foss, Nina Fox, Jen
nifer Fox, Christopher Foss, Benjamin Fox and Samantha Fox.
He followed his brother, Joseph W. Fox; and a sister, Elizabeth (Sam) Justice to Heaven.

Stan was born June 24, 1925, the son of Fred and Emma Fox, and was a graduate of Ashland High School, Ashland College and Bowling Green State University. He was a World War II veteran, and a teacher, principal and superintendent of the Berlin Local Schools, Erie County. He then worked for 26 years for the Ohio Department of Education as a supervisor and assistant director of elementary and secondary education. Concurrently he served as state director for the North Central Association of College and Schools.

A resident of Galena for 38 years, he served on village council and planning and zoning committee. As a member and elder of Grace Brethren Church of Columbus, he considered the opportunities to join with his wife, Janet, in serving the Lord in the ministries of the church, his highest and most valued privilege.

Viewing will be Sunday, Sept. 9 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville. Online condolences may be made at

Services will be Monday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Brethren World Missions or the Salvation Army.

Mr. Fox, I remember you when you were the Executive Head of Berlin Local School when I was in elementary school in the mid 1950s.
