Ulysses was the third of five children born to Joshua Benjamin Comley and Esther Jane Webb. At the time of the 1900 Census he was a tobacco stemmer. By 1908 he was a laborer for the L&N Railroad. Ulysses died of typhoid fever.
Although no marriage record has yet been found, city directories indicate that his widow's name was Pinkie.
